I've seen neither, but they appear to have the same premise. Has anyone else noticed this?

Actually, it looks a lot like the Pacifier is a remake of the Hulk Hogan classic "Mr. Nanny."
Vin Diesel is trying to be the new Hulk Hogan. And he's failing, I can tell you.

OH, good call on the Hulk Hogan.
But it's the same general plot for my original comparison: tough guy must protect women/children, hilarity ensues, tough guy learns to embrace spontaneity and the softer side of life...
